About Us

We are a Wirral-based, non-clinical centre offering services to those experiencing suicide crisis. Compass is The Martin Gallier Project’s online learning platform dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing.

The Martin Gallier Project is fiercely dedicated to preventing suicides, breaking down stigmas & supporting families in the North West. The project was set up in memory of my father who took his own life in 2017 aged 55. The one of a kind project has been put together to tackle the areas we found to be lacking during Dad's journey with mental illness, the missed opportunities to save his life & the situations that we believed to be be damaging to the family following his suicide.

How does it work?

Our annual Compass membership (at just £10 per year) gives you access to all of our wellbeing online courses*. Once you sign up, you will be able to start the first course – The School of Wellbeing. When more courses are added, you will be notified by email.

You can sign up for our annual membership here.

*More courses are set to launch throughout 2021/22 and will be added to Compass in the coming months.

Who is it for?

Compass is available nationally to anyone wanting to improve their wellbeing. You can sign up as an individual or we have corporate and business packages available to allow companies to introduce Compass to their employees.

What will I learn?

Each of our courses focusses on a different subject, for example, The School of Wellbeing is specifically designed to offer a comprehensive programme of wellbeing support. Through lessons and tasks, you are guided through learning material to help you better understand what wellbeing is and how important it is, how our brains and bodies react to certain situations and how we can adjust both mind and body to improve how we feel. It covers topics such as why you feel a certain way, how you can tackle negative thoughts and actions and advice on how to engage in self-care for improved wellbeing.

What can I expect from each course?

Each Compass course follows a simple step-by-step programme that can be taken at your own pace any time of the day and will be available for the duration of your membership. The courses are split into sections (we call them modules) and contain a series of lessons and topics. We have created helpful videos to talk you through each topic plus a section for you to read and understand – you can access these as many times as you like. At the end of each module, you are set a task to complete over that week or where applicable in your own time. This can be as simple as keeping a diary or journal about the topic or even a set of questions to answer, again, in your own time at your own pace. At the start and end of each course, we ask you to rate your wellbeing, the results are personal to you and are designed for you to track any improvements in your wellbeing.

What is The Martin Gallier Project?

The organisation was established by Jessica Gallier as a direct response to the impact of the death by suicide of her father Martin in 2017. Jess set out on a mission to “Prevent suicides, break down stigmas and support families in the North West”. The Martin Gallier Project was granted Community Interest Company status in August 2018 and fundraising efforts began to equip her with Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training. Five weeks, and five thousand pounds later, with plenty of help from the local community, friends and family, Jess became qualified as an ASIST trainer, bringing the training home to Merseyside. And so…in memory of Jess’ old man, The Martin Gallier Project was born. As of August 2020, The Martin Gallier Project was awarded the status of CIO.

The one-of-a-kind project has been put together to tackle the areas we found to be lacking during Jess’ father’s journey with mental illness, the missed opportunities to save his life & the situations that we believed to be damaging to the family following his suicide. In February 2019 we opened Wirral’s first and only Suicide Prevention Centre, based at 57 New Chester Road, New Ferry. The centre is a non-clinical setting which now offers a range of activities that promote wellbeing with an overall focus on suicide prevention. We don’t currently have a waiting list for talking therapies. Jessica’s inspirational story, drive and commitment, as our Founder and Chief Executive are, and will continue to be, huge strengths as the organisation develops and grows.

The Martin Gallier Project is the only suicide prevention, intervention and postvention service in the North West of England. Our Suicide Intervention Workers provide crisis support through immediate suicide interventions on the high street with no barriers to access or waiting lists, thus reducing the need for clinical interventions and hospital admissions.
